Businesses that Use Refrigeration Engineering
In the last few decades the ability to keep a room or a series of rooms or spaces at a specific temperature has become much easier than in the past. Today it is technology involving refrigeration engineering that allows for many businesses and business spaces to be kept very cold even when they exist in warm climates. Many businesses today need this technology to exist at all or ensure the quality and safety of their product down the line.
One of the most obvious uses of industrial refrigeration is ice rinks. All ice rinks have to use this type of engineering because they need to keep the room cool enough to keep the ice frozen well enough so that it can be skated upon by skaters or hockey players. The ice also needs to be able to withstand regular maintenance by a heavy machine. This cannot be done by a simple air conditioning system; instead a specific refrigeration system must be used to keep the room as well as the ice at the proper temperature to ensure safety.
Another type of business that uses this type of technology is food preparation and distribution sites. This is especially crucial in the butchering of meats and preparing of diary products and other refrigerated products. If the space is not kept cold enough it will allow for bacteria to grow, possibly causing a widespread health problem. Instead of risking this, the companies who run the distribution and preparation sites choose to use the most modern refrigeration systems to keep the temperatures very controlled and at optimal levels.
Grocery stores also have to use this type of refrigeration system. As you are probably well aware, a grocery store is very wide open in their planning yet some of the products need to be kept much, much cooler than others. The way that the stores are able to keep their products cool that need to be kept cool is often with ammonia refrigeration systems. Ammonia gas is used to keep the refrigerators cool and this can be done on a large scale or a small scale, depending on the need. This type of refrigeration allows for the grocer to keep their products at temperatures which will allow the foods to be kept at the safest temperature possible.
Restaurants also use industrial refrigeration. Most restaurants get big shipments of food in several times a week. Instead of having to store them all in a small refrigerator, they often have large industrial size refrigerators and freezers that allow them to store large quantities of food at a specific temperature. When you begin to think about restaurants, ice rinks, food distribution points, and even grocery stores it suddenly becomes very clear that refrigeration engineering is all around us and very important to the safe transport and consumption of food.
